Little Spokane River Year Round Moving Flat Water

This wonderful meandering river is a favorite for anyone who likes wildlife and a quality river float.
To access the upper put-in, drive to St. George's School north of Francis in Spokane. You will want to put a car at the take-out spot near the confluents of the Spokane River near the Spokane House. The flow is such that paddling back up stream is a difficult option. There is however, a 5 mile trail that leads you back to the put-in location. Be sure to take a cable and locks to secure your boats at the take-out. It would be wise to take your paddles and gear with you on the hike back. To reach the take out landing to leave a car, drive NW on Indian Trail Road to Rutter Parkway, then left (west) to Nine Mile Road SH#291. Just past the Nine Mile Falls Dam, follow #291 for about one mile to a left (north) turn before the Little Spokane River Bridge.
Drive about ¼ of a mile to the launch site. To reach the put in location, drive back past the Nine Mile Falls Dam to the Rutter Parkway left (SE) turn. Follow this road back to Indian Trail Road and turn left (NE). Rutter Parkway crosses the L. Spokane River, and snakes eastward to Waikiki Road. Turn left (east), and follow Waikiki east then south across the L. Spokane River for 1.3 miles to the turn off for St. George's School. Just past the hatchery turn right (north) to the landing. There is a mid way put in when you cross the river at Painted Rocks trailhead the first time.

Cool things to see: Lots of birds, meandering river, wildflowers, cliffs, meadows and farm settings.
