Farrugut State Park, Echo Bay and Long Beach Year Round Flat Water Can be windy

This paddle requires a narrow crossing of Pend O’reille Lake east of Farrugut State Park. If the winds are up, just wait for awhile, they may subside. As you approach the opposite side below Bernard Peak, look for Mountain Goats high on the cliffs all along the north face which is called Echo Bay. About 3 miles into the paddle you will come to a beach that I call Long Beach. This flat rock beach stretches for about 4 miles as it makes its way over to Lakeview. Stop along the beach where no one else is hanging' out and enjoy the quiet peacefulness. The trees on the bank of the beach have grown up so high that sunny spots are hard to find, and if you do find them, a constant migration is needed. Further up the beach when the angle faces more westerly, you may find sunnier locations

To get to Farrugut State Park, drive north on 95 to Athol and turn right (east) for 4 miles to the park.

Cool things to see: Historic Old Naval Base, rocks, cliffs, Mountain Goats, beaches, towering peaks and great water level views of the lake shoreline.
