Priest Lake Year Round Flat Water

Priest Lake is the northwest's premier lake destination. When you combine the surrounding mountains, forests, and the clear clean waters, of Priest Lake, you have a true gem. On the east side of the lake are two wonderful campgrounds to visit. The first is Indian Creek State Park about half way up the lake. While you are at Indian Creek, head out onto the lake to visit the three islands. There are three islands on the main lake that are worth visiting, and all have campsites available. 8 Mile Island is on the east side of the lake, while Bartoo & Kalispell Islands are on the west side. The North end of Kalispell Island looks like you are in the tropics. Also on the west side of the lower lake due north of Kalispell Island is the Indian Rock Pictographs. The second is Lion's Head State Park at the north end of the lake. Be sure to visit the Lion Creek Slippery Rocks due east from the campgrounds. As you travel the east side of the lake, just 4 miles north from Coolin, look for FR#23, and turn right (east) for .2 miles and look for an Idaho Endowments Land sign. Turn left (north) and drive about .15 to a clearing to park. Walk further up this road to Hunt Creek Falls.
Cool things to see: Scenic mountains, waterfall, 3 islands, crystal clear waters, a cool thorofare up to the upper lake and an incredible forest surrounding the entire lakes.

Upper Priest Lake Year Round Flat Water

From either side of the lake all the way to the north end, park and paddle up the thorofare to the upper lake. The thorofare is only 2.5 miles to the upper lake. Near the mouth of the upper lake look for moose swimming across the channel or grazing in the reeds around the mouth.
From the west side of the lake you can drive past Nordman to Granite Falls, LaSota Falls, Roosevelt Grove of Ancient Cedars, and on to American Falls surrounded by it's ancient cedar forest.
